Interested in volunteering with Milngavie Scouts?
We have a thriving Explorers Unit meeting at Milngavie Scout Hall on Tuesdays. Find out more here:
What is Explorers?
Explorers is the Scout section for young people aged 14-17. We offer a varied programme with a focus on skills for life such as teamwork, leadership and outdoor activities. Local Scouting is run entirely by volunteers. We have a great team in Milngavie and offer Duke of Edinburgh's Award as well as the top Scouting Awards. Explorers take part in games, activities and challenges to build skills and achieve awards and badges.
InTouch Policy for Weekly Meetings (separate arrangements will be made for Events)
How Volunteers communicate with parents and carers - Parents/carers are asked to keep their child's Personal Details up to date on Online Scout Manager (OSM) and confirm that this is up to date at least once per term. Volunteers keep the Programme on OSM up to date and aim to email (from OSM) on the Sunday before each Tues meeting to remind parents/carers and Explorers to look at the programme. In an emergency, Volunteers will phone parents/carers using the details provided on OSM and follow the guidance in the Purple Card: https://www.scouts.org.uk/volunteers/staying-safe-and-safeguarding/safe-scouting-cards/safe-scouting-and-emergency-procedures/ .
How parents and carers can communicate with Volunteers - Each week the nominated "Leader in Charge" of each session will be indicated on OSM and will share their email address and emergency phone number with parents/carers and Explorers.
How Volunteers communicate with Explorers - Explorers will add their contact details (email and phone number) on OSM under "Member" details. Explorers will receive the weekly emails and contact information for the session "Leader in Charge".
How parents and carers communicate with young people - Explorers are allowed to bring their phones to meetings but asked to have them out of sight and on silent unless required for an activity. If necessary, Explorers can leave their phone on to receive a call from a parent/carer. Alternatively parents/carers can phone the "Leader in Charge" to pass a message to their child.
When can my child join Explorers?
There are three main sessions within the Scouting year: September until end of December, January until end of March and April to August.
Are you looking for volunteers?
All of our leaders are trained volunteers, working to make sure Scouts is safe and open to all. Some volunteer every week while others occasionally help to run a session or drop in to share their skills. No matter how much time you have to spare, we welcome new volunteers.
